When one hears "teen rock band from Australia," it's pretty hard for images of grunge revivalists Silverchair to not automatically pop into one's head. But a decade after the aforementioned act first burst on the scene came another teenage rock act from down under, Evermore. And like Silverchair, Evermore is guilty of plagiarism -- no, not Nirvana like in Silverchair's case, but rather the unmistakable sounds of Muse and Radiohead. The all-brother group -- singer/guitarist Jon Hume, keyboardist/bassist Peter Hume, and drummer Dann Hume -- was supposedly already a chart sensation back home by the time their debut, Dreams, received a stateside release in the spring of 2006 (having been certified platinum and earning heaps of awards in their homeland). Still, it can't mask the fact that Evermore has yet to find their own sound and approach, as evidenced by many tracks that sound like they could have easily been plucked from either Absolution or The Bends -- especially "It's Too Late" and "Come to Nothing." Although it's always impressive when teenagers can write their own original material and not rely on covers, Evermore is still too close for comfort to their influences.
